Vintage Overdyed Rugs

Vintage overdyed rugs originated and first came to prominence in Turkey bringing old hand woven rugs back to life through a thorough revitalizing process. This time consuming and skilful process begins with the washing of the old rugs. Depending on the desired look for each individual rug, the rugs are shaved to reduce the pile height and give the “distressed” appearance. Following this, the rugs are methodically decolourized through chemical washes and sun bleaching. Once this is complete, the rugs are then dyed in one colour – a process that could be repeated several times in order to reach the desired shade of colour. The rugs are the laundered and set to dry before being washed once again before being delivered into our showroom.
